BLACK GOLD AND ITS MANY USES.

Black gold, compost or humus (all in the same frame of mind) beefs up the structure of the soil, increasing its ability to hold water and nutrients.  Treating your lawn with humus is like giving your lawn ice cream and cake with a cherry on top.

The City of DeWitt chooses one week with a rented screening device to sift the decomposed fall harvest into natures finished product.  Do not drive directly to the cemetery where the compost is stored.  Call Sue (669-2441) at the City Hall first.  If you wait too long, you may be disappointed.

BEGIN BY GIVING YOUR LAWN A THOROUGH HAND RAKING ALLOWING YOUR LAWN TO BREATHE

1. Lawn must be Dry
2. Use a steel rake
3. Lightly thatch as you go along (think twice if you decide to rent a thatching machine.  Call Terry at 669-3272 first).
4. When lawn is completely raked, aerate the lawn by walking around the yard in spiked golf shoes (renting a coring machine is a good decision to make).

NOW YOU ARE READY TO DISTRIBUTE THE BLACK GOLD
