Dear Neighbor,

Many of you may be wondering with concern why our lake levels aren't up to their usual marks for this time of year. While our west beach pump has been operating for over a month, our north pump at the dam site has been inoperable since the electrical outage that occurred during this past winter's ice storm.

During that storm, the high voltage wire that supplies power to the pump was downed when the pole supporting it collapsed. This pole connects to a transformer across the river near the city's fire station. The board was unaware of this event right away because Consumers Energy collected the wire and moved forward with other clean-up in the area.  This spring, during a maintenance check of the pumps, it was discovered that there were no longer wires powering the pump station. The board immediately contacted Consumers Energy with inquiry. We were informed that we would no longer be able to power the station from a pole across the river due to the dense tree cover and that an alternative source would be presented to us. Given the considerable electrical load the pump draws, there are only a few options for connecting power. Late last week we were informed that Consumers Energy has derived an alternate plan for powering our north pump station. The board has agreed to this plan.

The LGPOA board has worked diligently to resolve this situation. While we all hoped that it would be a quick fix, it has been made very clear to us that our pumps are much larger and draw more electricity than the surrounding power lines can supply without the addition of significant upgrades.  Those upgrades will be executed as soon as Consumers Energy dispatches the necessary crews. The board has an electrician on stand-by waiting to execute any upgrades necessary in the plan they have for us.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions. Also, for updates on this and other issues, please check our website, www.lgpoa.com. Thank you for your patience.
